The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Young Talents Program is back for another year, and this time, it’s awarding 30 exceptional scientists with a financial boost and leadership training to propel their careers forward. Despite their groundbreaking research, women remain vastly underrepresented in scientific fields. That’s why the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Young Talents Program is, specifically seeking the next generation of scientific superstars in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Here’s what you need to know:
Who can apply?
- Female Ph.D. students or PhD holders (including those in their second year of studies) in the fields of Life & Environmental Sciences, Physical Sciences, Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer & Information Sciences.
- You must be from one of the 48 Sub-Saharan African countries (excluding South Africa) and be working/studying in the region, or be from one of the 49 Sub-Saharan African countries (including South Africa) and be working/studying in any of the 48 Sub-Saharan African countries.
What’s the prize?
- 25 Ph.D. students will receive €10,000 each, and 5 postdoctoral fellows will receive €15,000 each, along with invaluable leadership training.

The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science national and regional Young Talents Programs support young women researchers around the world to pursue their scientific careers in their home countries or abroad.
